My favourite music player for Linux was long time XMMS, but development halted long time ago. Despite my extensive patch collection for XMMS I was always on the run for a more actively maintained player. The fork of the XMMS code into Beep Music Player seemed promising, but then they decided to make yet another super-dooper player with features I don't need. But unfortunately the code was forked a second time into audacious.
